New Features, Austria, New Watchers, Mixed Favs

It's foggy this morning and dark and I am still not fit but awake enough to make up a new journal.

To my friends in Germany I would like to recommend to go and see George Preusse's fabulous transvesti show Mary Christmas [link] He is a wonderful entertainer. His one man show lasts three hours and isn't boring even for a second. He is simply amazing! I went there with no expectations to please a friend and enjoyed myself beautifully and went home with a smile on my face. It was a very delightful evening.

This week I would like to feature various deviations related to

Austria

I hope you like the collection which I assembled after browsing for Austria using the dA search.

I remember beautiful visits to Vienna, Innsbruck, Bregenz, Seefeld and Leutasch. I love the sceenery and the friendly people in these places. Of some places I have photos here [link] Unfortunately I took no photos yet in lovely Vienna but I intend to change that soon

I remember the charming city very well. Sitting in a street coffee at the Kärntnerstarasse under the trees on a summer day, to watch the wold walk past, was one of my favorite past time there. Bregenz is an other of my favorite places in Austria and I drive up there often to walk and sit by the lake, visit the museum or meet friends.

I am very lucky / Features - Japan

Two weeks ago I started to feel ill. At first it was just painfull to touch the hair then awful pain started to bother me around the ear and it got worse and worse till I could no longer pull up some energy to sit at the computer. Finally the right side of my face got paralized and I couldn't close the eye anymore nor drink and talk properly. Naturally I got terrified and already feared the worst, especially when I got the impression that the doctors weren't very sure what to think of it. Before the paralizes set in I got antibiotics, even though they saw no infection of the ear. I thought that would take care of the infection where ever it was hidden but it didn't. Later they suspected a virus and prescribed strong, very expensiv virus killers. Their main concern however were my eye. I had to close it shut with tape at night in order to make sure it didn't dry out and during the day I had to apply drops every few jours to keep it damp. It's amazing to realize how important the ability to blink is. When the medicin didn't work wonders the first few days I got more and more angious, feared that I could never eat out and in company anymore etc. etc. and never be able to focus on anything anymore for long without getting red and hurting eyes and because the sight got worse. Finally this morning I noticed that I could blink again and that drinking was less akward and that the ear pain has practically gone. I enormeously happy about this. It's like being new born. I am terribly grateful and hope that all my friends who are disabled or suffer from pain get cured too. I send out my very best wishes to everyone who needs it.

On Monday I hope to start answerding comments and replies and to look at the new deviations. I can't wait to see what everyone has been doing. For now I just upload a new journal with features I had prepared before I got ill. More features will follow when I have caught up everything else.

I'd love to visit Japan one day. If only it wasn't that far away... The Japanese people and its culture have always fascinated me. During my working years as a travel agent I was in charge of Japanese groups visiting Europe for a long time and I enjoyed that very much.

Belgium - New Watchers - Mixed Favs - Help please

This week I went to the movie twice. I saw an excellent japanese film, Departures (Okuribito) [link] a very touching film played by wonderful artists, a film I highly recomment do see, one I probably see again. Check out this link [link] for more information. Another film I saw this week is Giulias Verschwinden [link] The film will be shown in Germany, Austria and Spain very soon too. The film was much praised in the papers and won the Audience Award at the Film Festival Locarno 2009. Depending on the mood you are in when you see it you may find it as witty and amusing or depressed because of the confrontation with the uninvitable reality of the consequences of growing older. Well, the alternative to growing older is even less attractive therefore we might as well grin and bare it and enjoy the film

In stead of going out I really should save money for a new PC. My old machine gets slower and slower and making fractals gets more and more tiresome. Now that Windows 7 has been released I really should think about a change. Or should I maybe switch to MAC? Should I get a desktop again or go for a notebook? I really could do with some good advise from someone who is informed about the newest hardware and what I would need to render good quality fractals in a reasonable amount of time. If anyone ready this who can advise me please do

Features - Czech Republic, New Watchers, Favs

These last few weeks I was not very creative, instead I tried to get acquainted with my new camera Canon Powershot SX1 IS and uploading photos to my Panoramio gallery. I am not a great photographer but I hope to improve in time. To geo tag my photos I bought a handy tool, Visiontac VGPS-900 to save time in the future. To add latitude and longitude manually to the exif data of a photo is very time consuming. It took some time to understand how to add the data collected with Visiontac to the photos but after some trial and errors, just before I was ready to give up, I found a manual in German and that helped a lot. Now the work flow is quick and easy.

Apart from fiddling with new gadgets I saw a couple of films at the cinema. I highly recommend to see Desert Flower which is about the tragic story of the courageous Waris Dirie. A woman who had to endure the suffering and heartbreaking consequences, on body and soul, inflicted on her by genital mutilation and pre-arranged marriage, who fled through the Somalia desert on her own and became a famous fashion model.

To those who are homesick for Greece I recommend Small Crime, a witty Greek comedy. Furthermore I saw Machan which is funny and tragic and last but not least Ang Lee's Talking Woodstock, a real feel-good movie.

Apart from films, I also saw the awesome exhibition of photographer Michel Comte at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich which I recommend to everyone who has a chance to see it.

Over the weekend I finally found time to catch up with comments and messages and to look at new deviations and even to assemble features for a new journal.
